The Lincoln MKZ gets a complete redesign for 2017. Gone is the unpopular and somewhat awkward corporate grill that Lincoln was trying out. It's been replaced with a much more conventional looking grill, to go along with sophisticated new styling on the rest of the vehicle. The interior has also been given a thorough refresh, with high quality materials abound. On the mechanical side of things, a brand new top of the line turbocharged engine is available, producing enough power to make the brand new MKZ a genuinely fast car.
The Lincoln MKZ is available with one of several different engines. At the bottom of the range is a choice of two different 4-cylinder engines. The first comes as part of a hybrid drivetrain, utilizing that 2.0L engine in conjunction with an electric motor, the MKZ hybrid is rated at an astounding 41 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. The other 4-cylinder option is a 2.0L Turbocharged unit. Making 245 hp, it should ensure that the MKZ has pretty zippy acceleration. Interestingly, both models are priced identically at the bottom of the range, so buyers have a choice between power and fuel economy right from the get-go.
The optional engine is a brand new 3.0L turbocharged V6 with direct injection. In its basic guise it makes 350 hp, enough to make the MKZ quite rapid. But if a buyer should opt for all-wheel drive in conjunction with the V6, they will be treated to an extra 50 hp, bringing the grand total up to an even 400 hp, enough power to really surprise anyone riding in the mid-sized luxury car.
Basic, standard equipment on the Lincoln MKZ with the 2.0L turbo is quite substantial and includes 10-way heated front seats with a memory function for the driver's side, A 10.2" LCD gauge cluster, Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system, SiriusXM Satellite radio, 2 USB ports and an audio jack, dual-zone temperature control, a remote starter, 18" machined aluminum wheels, paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, and a rear view camera.
Models sold with the 3.0L Turbocharged V6 also get wood paneling on the interior, additional ambient lighting, a power telescoping steering wheel and auto-folding side view mirrors.
There are several options available of course. A technology package features adaptive cruise control, pre-collision and pedestrian detection systems, a self-parking feature and rain sensing wipers. A panoramic glass sunroof is available, created what Lincoln claim to be the largest sunroof opening amongst sedans currently sold. A luxury package meanwhile, adds a 20-speaker Revel Ultima sound system along with LED headlights, while the Select Plus Package adds a navigation system and a blind spot detection system.
